Some may argue green juice is nothing more than a fiberless glass of sugar while other cult-like fanatics are pounding the stuff (Medical Mediums). It’s not necessarily suggested to be a meal replacement, but a cold glass of green juice definitely has its benefits!

Ingredient notes:

Celery – Millions of people follow the celery juice protocol, but straight celery juice on an empty stomach isn’t the only way to get celery health benefits. Like most veggies, Celery is rich in vitamins and minerals and has a low glycemic index, meaning it doesn’t spike your blood sugar or increase insulin levels, making it an excellent snack if you’re trying to lose a few lbs or control your weight. Vitamins A, K, and C, plus minerals like potassium and folate are found in the crunch stalks of celery too.

Lemon – Lemons are high in vitamin C (double the daily requirement), and fiber, and can support weight control, and digestive health.

Ginger – Ginger root has been used as an herbal medicine around the world for years. It’s rich in natural chemicals to help cut down any fermentation as a result of poor digestion which leads to bloating and uncomfortable gas pains. It’s also a powerful anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant, and can help balance your blood sugar.

Cucumber – Crisp and refreshing, who doesn’t love a fresh slice of cucumber? They make the perfect hummus dipper, you can infuse it in water, or make an entire salad of them. PLUS they are high in vitamins and minerals. Vitamin C, K, Magnesium, Potassium, and Manganese to be exact.

Substitution and variations:

Low on time? One of my favorite ways to cleanse and detox my body is a peach tea blend by Yogi. It has dandilion root, burdock root, and cinnamon amongst other herbs that help clear your intestinal tract. It also tastes amazing!

Juice Ingredients:

  • 3 large cucumber
  • 2 lemons
  • 2 large ginger root
  • 1-2 large bags of celery

Step-by-step instructions:

  1. Wash and chop your veggies.
  2. Toss a small number of your veggies in the blender and turn on high speed. You may need to use the mixing wand to get it going.
  3. Continue to add prepped veggies through the removable cap on the top of the blender if using a Vitamix or similar machine.
  4. Hold mesh cloth on one side over a large bowl or pitcher and gently guide juice pulp into it. Note: It would be easiest to use a bowl/pitcher the mesh cloth fits over, similar to how a trash bag fits in its can.
  5. Once all the pulp is successfully in the bag, twist the bag and squeeze until all juice is completely strained.
  6. Pour in mason jars for storage and place in refrigerator or serve immediately over ice, enjoy!

Why we love green juice

It’s crisp and refreshing and there’s no doubt that you just feel good when you’re drinking it. Juiced veggies are known for their antioxidants, minerals, phytonutrients, and lots of chlorophyll. Chlorophyll is the stuff plants use to convert sunlight into energy—it’s what gives them their signature green color. In people, chlorophyll can aid digestion, help detox the liver, and has antioxidant properties.

So get yo glow on and blend up something green today 🙂
